Better Partners. Better Materials.

We have partnered with industry-leading suppliers who are pushing the boundaries of environmentally responsible innovation. These companies have spent years developing high-performance, durable materials designed to reduce their impact to the planet.

The materials used on our shoes are carefully chosen not just for how they perform in the real world, but for the sustainable story behind their creation. Our partners provide full transparency, with sustainability metrics that are tracked, reported, and data verified by third-party organizations and government agencies.

We’re proud to collaborate with them, and we’re sharing their work here in the hope that others will be inspired to do the same.

ISA LITE Concept

The concept started with a vision of our company and the requirements from brands to offer environmentally friendly leather. LITE (Low Impact To the Environment) was born to provide our customers with the knowledge of carbon and water footprint usage for each of the leathers we create; giving customers the ability to choose the product that is the most environmentally friendly, and with the lowest footprint. The LITE system is fully integrated into our manufacturing process, which is specially designed to reduce and control water and energy usage, as well as to reduce the amount of chemicals we use in the process. The effort we make is consistently minimizing our impact to the environment.

LITE Manufacturing Facilities include:

  • Solar Energy - make use of renewable solar thermal energy to replace diesel fuel, which is traditionally used to heat up water for the tanning process. Approx. 65% of hot water is heated with solar energy.

  • Wind Energy - green energy allows rainwater to be pumped from the lagoon into production.

  • Rain Lagoon - to limit the impact on the local communities, we minimize the usage of municipal water by the collection of rainwater for production and greenery. Approx. 25,000 m³ of rainwater is collected by our lagoons per year.

  • Natural Light - opaque light panels used in the ceiling of production floors to maximize the use of natural lighting during the day. This saves more than approx. 2,600 production hours of lighting every year.

  • Bamboo Walls - rarely seen in traditional tanneries, the use of bamboo walls naturally ventilates the entire production facility with a constant breeze of fresh air to save air condition in hot geographic areas.

  • Wetland Wastewater Processing - Our engineered wetlands allow a natural purification process of our wastewater without generating emissions. Our treatment facilities are unique in the industry due to the amount of planning, innovation and investment involved. Each wetland is set up with an automated water level control system for optimal wastewater
    treatment.

About Oceanworks®

Oceanworks® exists for one simple reason, to keep our ocean clean by making it easy for brands to take action against plastic pollution. Through a global network of collectors and recycled plastic suppliers, Oceanworks® provides brands a clear path to reduce their plastic footprint with reliability and transparency. As a Plastic Action Platform we measure your plastic footprint, fund plastic waste removal, find sustainable alternatives, and track supply chains from shore to shelf

What is Oceanworks Guaranteed®?

This mark shows that a brand or product supports the larger mission - keeping plastic out of the ocean. Together we are building a circular economy. The OWG mark is a symbol of authenticity, supply chain transparency, social and environmental compliance. Plastic action with the reliability and traceability you deserve.

100% Recycled Ocean-Bound Plastic

Oceanworks® processes collected plastic from coastal regions and recycles it into high-performance fabrics. By stopping the flow of waste plastic into our oceans and waterways, we are turning trash into textiles and keeping our oceans clean.

The textiles used for the upper of the Chivo, as well as the lining of both the Chivo and Ranch are made from Oceanworks 100% recycled ocean-bound plastic.

Sustainability

Pony is the only global PU supplier that offers solvent-free PU materials and 100% recycled backers. They also follow a strict gold standard environmental management.

The accents on the upper of the Chivo are made with their 100% recycled backing materials.

The Mission

Our mission is to revolutionize the insole industry by providing the highest performance solutions fused with sustainable processes. We are dedicated to tackling the environmental challenges caused by foam manufacturing and creating a cleaner, greener future.

Our commitment to sustainability goes beyond the materials we use. We've implemented an environmentally conscious manufacturing process that minimizes resource consumption, eliminates toxic chemicals, and reduces water usage. By prioritizing clean energy sources and implementing efficient production techniques, we ensure that every pair of Blumaka insoles has a minimal carbon footprint.

Quality from Waste

Blumaka's commitment to sustainability begins with meticulously crafted insoles from recycled foam. By repurposing discarded scraps from the footwear industry, we not only contribute to waste reduction, but also transform it into a high-performance athletic equipment.

Blumaka insoles boast exceptional durability, lasting over 1,000 miles of intense athletic use. This longevity not only sets a new standard in the industry, but also showcases our dedication to creating products that stand the test of time, reducing the need for frequent replacements and further minimizing environmental impact.

Blumaka Foam

Blumaka turns premium foam waste from leading athletic brands into high-performance products. Instead of sending top-quality foam to landfills, we reclaim and repurpose it in our own factory—grinding it into chunks and mixing it with our proprietary Blumaka formulation.

This process enhances the recycled materials properties, resulting in superior cushioning, increased responsiveness, and lasting performance.  Blumaka delivers elite level-performance with a fraction of the environmental impact.

Stats

  • Made with up to 85% recycled performance foam
  • 99% less water used than traditional EVA Manufacturing
  • 65% less carbon generated to product our insoles than traditional EVA insole manufacturing

All Seagrass shoes come with Blumka insoles, the best insoles we have ever worn!

Packaging

Sustainability goes beyond the product, how you package it is just as important.

Sustainable Materials

Our box and hangtag are made with 100% recycled cardboard, certified by the Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®).

They are printed with soy-based inks to minimize the use of toxic chemicals.

S.I.O.C. Box

Your shoes ship in the same box they’re packed in. No extra boxes, less waste.

We chose to use a SIOC (Ships In Own Container) shoe box to reduce waste and minimize unnecessary packaging.

You can reuse the box to send returns to Seagrass, or to ship anything else anywhere in the world.
